Know the Different Types

Top Knobs cabinet hardwareThe first step is to familiarize yourself with the various options available. You typically see knobs and pulls on cabinets, but there are so many sizes, shapes and styles. To start, what should you know about the basic hardware categories?

Knobs

The most basic type of hardware, knobs have many different applications, from small knobs for pull-out bread boards to large knobs for tall cabinets. Knobs are also popular for their simple installation, so any homeowner can switch them out with a single screw.

Handles or Pulls

Cabinet pulls function best with taller, larger cabinets because of their own long shape. They are often used on wood-panel layovers that hide refrigerators and other big appliances. Pulls are mounted with multiple, thicker screws than knobs, but are also easy to install.

Latches & Catches

Functional Kitchen Lighting

Within Connecticut Lighting Centers, we have built a kitchen to show customers the many different ways light can enhance the look of the room. One innovative way to light areas of your kitchen that you’ve never been able to properly illuminate is with LED ribbon lighting.

Although the tape looks small, it has great light output and no glare inside a glass cabinet, since you can’t see the source. Apply above, below and even inside cabinets to save space.

For recessed lighting, we have cans from two to five inches wide in a variety of styles. From LED and integrated LED to incandescent, there are so many options to create the aesthetic you want! Recessed cans have incredible light input and a clean look for the ceiling.

We also have a large selection of decorative options that does the functional side right, but also serves as a nice focal point in your kitchen. From mini pendants to large pendants and fixtures, you can choose whatever you style you want.

Lighting Design Is All in the Details

Deer Valley North Townhomes in Ellington, CT is the latest project by Santini Homes Inc. The complex is a rental community of luxury apartments for which we provided the lighting and so much more! Each unit features products from the Connecticut Lighting Centers showrooms, from lights to ceiling fans and decorative hardware. Our Vice President, Todd Director, recently appeared on Better Connecticut to tour the townhomes with Scot Haney and Eric Santini. Let’s explore by room.

Lighting in the Kitchen

Unfortunately, most rental units will not spend the money to cut in recess lighting. Instead, there is a big fluorescent or LED light placed in the middle of the room as decoration. At Deer Valley North, we used recessed lighting for a cleaner look and pendant lights above the island for a more “homey” feel.

Customization in the Bathroom

The lighting in the unit bathrooms is more decorative, but still provides the quality lighting you need to complete tasks. Through our close partnerships with each vendor, we were able to customize wood frame mirrors specifically to what the Santini wanted for these rooms.
